International Organizations
Studying the issue of leadership in international organizations., De Vries and Mead (1992) presented an outline comprising three spheres of influence in the development of an international leader or manager. In the area of child development, the authors put adaptability factors (development of ambition, achievement and self-confidence, cultural diversity in the family, international experience early bilingualism, adaptability) and factors of leadership (self-confidence, responsibility, curiosity, imagination, vital capacity, vision, communication skills, values downtown, expectations and career goals). By In the professional sphere, should be developed during the training phase analytical skills and education professionals, the study of other cultures, international environment and the study of languages. In management development phase, the person must have responsibility from early, undertake various tasks, have international experience early and internalize the values of corporate culture. Terms family relationships, the spouse must be adaptive and support, children must show easily to change and the family have various interests. In the organizational sphere, the structural arrangements must be geocentric, that is, there must be a complex network of interdependencies between corporate headquarters and subsidiaries, the structure must be rasa, heterarchical and multicultural. Besides, the people management practices should provide for the planning and monitoring of races, repatriated management, criteria for selection, succession planning and communications.
The development of international managers is the result of a confluence of factors at all three areas. The authors conclude that in addition to the predisposition to become an international leader and exposed to the influences of the three domains, the global leader in development of advanced practice is precisely determined by becoming a global leader. Training can be a critical factor for successful managers, especially when it comes to expatriates. In that case, you should seek to develop in candidates the expatriamento understanding of cultural differences and values inherent in foreign cultures, plus the ability to discern the logic behind the actions and behaviors based on values of their own culture distinguished (Tung, 1992, apud Rodrigues and Duarte, 1997).
